October 23, 2025: Official Statement from the Town of Jonesport Select Board **

Official Statement from the Town of Jonesport Select Board **

** Official Statement from the Town of Jonesport Select Board **

The Town of Jonesport Select Board stands in support of the Washington County Budget Advisory Committee’s proposed bond of up to $8 million to pay debt related to the tax anticipation note which is due by the end of this calendar year.

The Town of Jonesport Select Board recognizes the frustration and concern many residents feel regarding the financial challenges currently facing Washington County. Mistakes have been made, and it is understandable that public trust has been shaken.

However, we also recognize the importance of moving forward together. The proposed bond represents a necessary and responsible step to stabilize county operations, protect essential services such as law enforcement, emergency management, and 911 dispatch, and provide the time needed to implement longer-term solutions and fiscal responsibility measures.

We encourage residents to stay informed and attend the upcoming Washington County press conference to hear directly from county leaders about the details and next steps.

PRESS CONFERENCE: Thursday, October 23 at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse in Machias for a full update on the proposed bond.

RESOURCES & INFORMATION: Residents are also encouraged to visit WashingtonCountyMaine.com and explore the resources available at the bottom of the homepage to stay informed and engaged.

Letter from the Washington County Budget Advisory Committee is in Comments.
